Manchaca Jazzercise, September 2010

Linda Brown

1. How did you find our classes at Manchaca? Who told you about it?

Wow...it has been so long, I don't remember how I came upon Jazzercise. The location was when it was by the Texican Cafe so I might of saw a sign or someone told me about it, but whatever means it was, I am very glad to have found it.

2. What do you like about Jazzercise that keeps you coming to class?

Several things, first the movement of the exercise itself. It is like an addiction. You feel like you are dancing to good music, more than you feel like you are exercising. Second, the fellowship you get from others once you "become a regular". Third, it's healthy, and fourth, it relieves stress.

3. How old are you, are you married, children? Tell us a little about your family and you?

I'm currently 49.9 years old....YUP, about to turn the big 50 in September. I am married (2nd time), for a little over a year. I am looking at retiring from the State employment within a year to year and a half. I have 2 grown boys (men), Scott is 26 yrs. old. He is about to be deployed to Afghanistan in September for a year with the National Guard. He is engaged and will marry when he returns (11/11/11). Bane, my youngest, is 22 yrs. old. He is finishing up college with Texas State University. He is going to graduate in December. However, with my new marriage I have 3 stepchildren, where 2 are married and have families of their own, and a stepson, Cody who is also 26 and is a mechanic with UPS.

4. Have you ever experienced an injury and has it set you back from exercise? If so, how did you bounce back?

NO and I'm very thankful for that; however, I have had surgeries that kept me from coming to class, but nothing from attending class.

5. How did you feel when you first tried the class, and what advice would you have for a new Jazzerciser?

Well the best description is "like a fish out of water" however, as I mentioned, it is like dancing. If you like to dance and you want exercise at the same time, you stick with it. After a while you get the hang of the moves, and then you can add a little of your own to them. The advice I would give and do give to new Jazzercisers is to ask questions, listen to your body but give the classes a chance before saying "I can't do these moves".
